Vintage Valentine - Part Two (For the Adults!)

Hey Thrifty Knickers!

Decided to post my valentines scrawlings in two parts, as traditionally (I mentioned before!) I'm not very good with valentines.. and normally end up baking some heart shaped biscuits incase I end up with some sort of surprise gift thrust upon me so that I can pretend. ahem, I mean, display how much effort I'd put in to doing some sweet and lovely. Winkwink! ;-)

Once you're done with all the pancakey fun, I'm sure you'll be in a tizzy - if you're not already, as to what ON earth you are supposed to get a man for valentines. I hate buying for men. It's awkward. Especially as my OH is one of those that just goes and gets what he wants if he ever wants something. Nothing left for presents!

So, get your heart shaped cutters at the ready!

I'm going to give you a superbly basic ultra user friendly biscuit recipe - You can then adapt or decorate this to your own style.. add some lemon drizzle icing, or chocolate shavings, make a stack of hearts and serve with raspberrys and ice-cream; use your imaginations! Would love to see pictures!

Basic Biscuit Recipe
175g/6oz Plain Flour100g/4oz Butter or Margarine50g/2oz Caster Sugar
Pre-heat oven to 150°C/300°F/Gas 2

Cream the butter and caster sugar together until they are nice and pale and fluffy (just as you would when making a cake!)

Stir in your flour a little at a time and once completely mixed, knead the dough together until it forms a ball, add a sprinkle of flour if you need to, sometimes the dough can get sticky - especially if you're in a warm kitchen!
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface until it is about 5mm thick.
Cut out the dough using your chosen cutter. Come on - I bet you're using a heart shaped one ;-)
Place the biscuits on a floured baking tray and bake in the centre of the oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown. If you're using a Fan oven, keep your eye on them! They tend to cook a little faster!

I hope you have lots of fun decorating them, my little madam loves baking, I don't love the clearing up part..
Send me some pictures! You can find me on twitter @Thriftilykitsch or pop me a comment on here!

Good Luck, Thrifty B xx
